Aalto University Admission Requirements 2027

Aalto University was formed in 2010 by merging Finland's schools of technology, business and art in Espoo, next to Helsinki, and teaches bachelor's programmes in English across all three fields. Tuition for students from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland runs from 12,000 euros a year for a bachelor's in business or technology to 20,000 for a master's in art and architecture.

English test waiver

Aalto does not ask for a language test in the Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology. Its own admission page states that the language of instruction is English and that students are expected to have sufficient English to study in it, but that an applicant is not required to submit a language test result. That follows from the admission route: groups I and II are ranked on the SAT or ACT, both taken in English. For master's admission Aalto does require proof, and accepts only the methods it lists: IELTS Academic at 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing, including IELTS Online Academic, IELTS for UKVI Academic and IELTS with One Skill Retake but not General Training, and TOEFL iBT at 4.5 overall with 4.0 in every sub test for a test taken on or after 21 January 2026, or 92 overall with 22 in writing for a test taken before that date. IELTS results are valid for two years, and for the January 2027 round the official scores had to reach Aalto Admission Services by 15.00 on 12 January 2027.
