Requirements
Bachelor
The YOKOHAMA Socrates Program admits international applicants who can show English proficiency sufficient for classwork and daily life; YNU describes this as CEFR level B2 or above without publishing a specific IELTS or TOEFL score. Selection is by submitted documents, an essay and an online interview.
Master
YNU lists English-medium master's degrees in several engineering, science and infrastructure fields; each graduate school sets its own application period, documents and English test policy, published on its own admissions page.

How to apply
- Confirm the Socrates Program (bachelor's) or the relevant graduate school (master's or doctoral) matches your field.
- Prepare transcripts, an essay and any required test scores.
- Submit the online application within the published period.
- Attend an online interview.
- Pay the admission fee and first tuition instalment after an offer to confirm your place.
English test waiver
The Socrates Program requires an official English result with the application, and accepts several. TOEFL iBT, including the Home Edition, needs a test date score of 80 or above for a test taken before 21 January 2026, and 4.0 on the new 1 to 6 scale, or 80 on the old 0 to 120 scale, for a test taken on or after that date; MyBest scores are not accepted. IELTS Academic, including the online version, needs an overall band of 6.0 or above. The International Baccalaureate is accepted at HL 5 or SL 5 in English A, or HL 5 or SL 6 in English B. The Malaysian University English Test is accepted at band 4 or above, and China's Public English Test System at grade 5. An applicant who attended primary and secondary school in English for a total of at least six years, or for four continuous years including the final year of secondary school, can document that instead of a test. Only a score that is valid at the time of application counts.
