The University of Victoria sits on Vancouver Island and applies directly rather than through a shared provincial service, though the application fee itself varies by where an applicant's transcripts come from. Admission to most undergraduate programs is based on academic record in required senior secondary subjects, and the university guarantees a place in residence for eligible first-year students who apply for admission by 31 January and for residence by 15 February. English proficiency can be met through TOEFL, IELTS, the Duolingo English Test, or by completing UVic's own English Language Centre pathway; the university publishes separate score bands for regular admission, conditional admission, and eligibility to apply to its pathway program, which lets an academically qualified applicant who has not yet reached the required English level still work toward admission. UVic is known for co-operative education, with international co-op students earning an average of about CAD 62,600 over 16 months of paid work terms integrated into their degree.
