The University of Tokyo Tuition Fees 2027 for International Students

The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) is Japan's oldest and most internationally known national university. Its Programs in English at Komaba (PEAK) undergraduate track closed after its September 2026 intake, and from September 2027 the new UTokyo College of Design opens as the university's first fully English-taught undergraduate faculty in about 70 years, alongside long-running English-taught master's and doctoral programmes across many graduate schools.

UTokyo charges the same fees to Japanese and international students. Undergraduate tuition is JPY 642,960 a year, above the JPY 535,800 most other national universities charge; graduate tuition outside the School of Law and professional programmes is JPY 535,800 a year. All students also pay a one-time admission fee of JPY 282,000 and a non-refundable entrance examination fee, JPY 4,000 plus JPY 13,000 (two stages, JPY 17,000 total) for undergraduate applicants and JPY 30,000 for most graduate and School of Law applicants. The figures here reflect the fee schedule published for the 2026-27 academic year.
