Requirements
Bachelor
Applicants for undergraduate degree programmes must be at least 21 years of age on the date of admission to the programme, hold at least a Credit Six (C6) in English Language at GCE O Level (or a grade C in IGCSE English as a Second Language, or IELTS 6.0, or TOEFL 550), hold a minimum of Credit Six (C6) at GCE O Level Mathematics or equivalent unless exempted by the programme, and have passed at least one GCE A Level or an equivalent qualification. Individual schools and programmes set further subject-specific requirements.
Master
Entry requirements vary by programme and by route (Coursework, Research, PhD or DBA). Programmes generally require a relevant bachelor's or master's degree from a recognised institution, and the same English language requirement as undergraduate entry (GCE O Level English, IGCSE English, IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550), to be met within two years of the programme start date unless the applicant's prior education was in English.
Documents
Certified academic certificates and transcripts, a copy of the applicant's identity card or passport, and (for Brunei-based applicants routed through HECAS) a confidential report and service record submitted through the applicant's Head of Department or employer. All attached certificates and documents must be certified by the Head of Department or employer before submission to UTB.
How to apply
- Applicants outside Brunei apply directly through Apply@UTB at https://apply.utb.edu.bn.
- Applicants based in Brunei Darussalam first apply through the HECAS portal at www.hecas.edu.bn, then submit a hard copy of the HECAS application form with certified academic certificates and identity documents to UTB, and also complete an online application at Apply@UTB.
- Applicants must ensure certified certificates and documents reach UTB by the closing date of the Apply@UTB online system.
- Successful applicants receive an offer of admission and pay registration, programme deposit, administrative and tuition fees at the UTB Finance Office before the registration date.
English test waiver
UTB accepts a Credit Six (C6) in English Language at GCE O Level, or a grade C in IGCSE English as a Second Language, in place of an IELTS or TOEFL score. Where a programme requires IELTS or TOEFL, it must be taken within two years of the programme start date, and the requirement may be waived where the applicant's prior higher education was completed in the medium of English within the last two years.
