The University of St. Gallen (HSG) is a specialised business, economics, law and international-affairs university with a legally limited number of places for foreign applicants. Every bachelor applicant with a foreign school certificate, regardless of nationality, must pass HSG's own two-stage selection procedure, and HSG charges international students substantially more per semester than domestic students.

HSG charges CHF 1,229 a semester in tuition for Swiss nationals and CHF 3,129 a semester for students from outside Switzerland, among the highest rates charged by any Swiss university researched for this file; HSG's own guidance points to a realistic total annual budget, tuition plus living costs, of roughly CHF 25,000 to 30,000. The application fee is CHF 250, also higher than most other Swiss universities researched here.
