University of Pécs Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Pécs, founded in 1367, is Hungary's oldest university, and its Medical School is one of the country's main destinations for international students reading medicine in English. General Medicine costs USD 16,750 a year for students starting in 2027/28 and Dentistry USD 17,350; the Faculty of Pharmacy and the biotechnology degrees are priced in euros instead, from EUR 7,000 a year.

English test waiver

Pécs publishes one of the longest accepted lists in Europe, all at CEFR B2 unless stated. IELTS needs 6.0 overall with no skill below 5.5; TOEFL iBT needs 90 on the traditional scale or 4.5 on the 1 to 6 scale introduced in 2026; PTE Academic needs 59; the Duolingo English Test needs 115; Cambridge B2 First needs 170, with the higher C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency also accepted; Oxford ELLT needs 6 overall with 5 per category and the Oxford Test of English Advanced 125; LanguageCert Academic needs 65 overall with 60 per category; the Michigan English Test needs 53; and TOEIC needs 785 or more on reading and listening together with 320 or more on speaking and writing. The Hungarian examinations ECL, Euroexam, TELC, BME Nyelvvizsga, Origó, Dexam, társalKODÓ and Zöld Út are accepted at B2. An applicant is exempt from a test if they were educated in English in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Singapore or South Africa, if they hold an International Baccalaureate diploma, if they hold IGCSE plus A levels from Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or OxfordAQA, or if they took their higher education in English, except for the master's programmes of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Applicants to the Medical School and the faculties of Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Engineering and Information Technology have their English assessed by an online test, an interview or both whatever certificate they hold. The master's programmes in American Studies, English Studies and the Instruction of English as a Foreign Language require C1 rather than B2.
