Requirements
Bachelor
- A secondary school diploma the University of Neuchatel recognises as granting access to higher education.
- CEFR B2 French, verified through the ECUS exam for applicants whose diploma does not exempt them.
- Registration through the Immatriculations Office within the published window.
Master
- A completed bachelor's degree in a related subject; a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field, or from a foreign university, can still give access under conditions the receiving institute sets.
- For French-taught programmes: CEFR B2 French. For the university's English-taught or bilingual master's programmes: proficiency in English, with the specific requirement, where one is published, set at programme level rather than centrally.
- Application by 30 April for autumn semester entry or 30 November for spring semester entry, with late admission to 15 August for the autumn semester.
Documents
Secondary school certificate or bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts; proof of French (ECUS exam or exempting diploma) or English proficiency as the programme requires; passport or ID copy; and the CHF 100 registration fee payment for an applicant admitted on a foreign diploma.
How to apply
- Confirm your bachelor's degree is in a related subject, or check the conditions for an unrelated or foreign degree with the relevant institute.
- Prepare transcripts, certificates and proof of French or English proficiency as your programme requires.
- Register with the Immatriculations Office by 30 April for autumn semester entry or 30 November for spring semester entry (late admission to 15 August for the autumn semester).
- Pay the CHF 100 registration fee, deducted from your first semester's tuition if you enrol.
- Use the registration confirmation to apply for the Swiss national student visa if required.
- Complete enrolment once admitted.
English test waiver
The University of Neuchatel's central admission pages, including its dedicated 'Masters in English' listing, did not, on the pages this session could fetch, publish a numeric IELTS or TOEFL minimum for its English-taught master's programmes. Bachelor's degrees are taught in French, requiring CEFR B2 French (the ECUS exam applies to applicants without an exempting diploma); many master's programmes are taught fully in English or bilingually in French and English, but the specific numeric English test requirement, where one exists, is set at individual programme level rather than centrally.
