University of Malta Admission Requirements 2027

The University of Malta, on its main campus at Msida, had 12,701 students in 2025-26 and requires English proficiency for its courses. Non-EU students pay EUR 10,800 for the MA in Cultural Heritage Management and EUR 13,400 for the MSc in Artificial Intelligence in 2026-27, and EUR 26,000 a year for Medicine. The application fee is EUR 100, and non-EU applicants who need a visa must apply by 1 July for October entry.

English test waiver

The University of Malta sets different English levels for undergraduate and postgraduate study. Undergraduate courses need Academic IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80 with 20 in writing (4.5 on the scale used from January 2026), PTE Academic 65 with 59 in each element, or Cambridge Advanced at grade C or better. Postgraduate and doctoral courses need IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95 with 24 in writing (5 on the new scale) or PTE Academic 71 with 65 in each element. Results must be valid for two years from the start of the course, and non-EU applicants who need a visa must submit them by 1 July for October entry or 10 November for February entry. Duolingo is not on the list. Exemptions include MATSEC Advanced level English at grade E or better, a UK GCSE in English at grade 4 or C, and nationals of English-speaking countries who completed secondary education there.
