Requirements
Bachelor
- A foreign secondary school diploma UNIL considers equivalent to the Swiss Maturity certificate, assessed against country-specific conditions UNIL IMMAT publishes.
- CEFR B2 to C1 French, since bachelor's teaching is predominantly in French.
- Registration within UNIL's published window: around 1 to 28 February for candidates needing a Swiss entry visa, or to 30 April for those who do not, for the autumn semester.
Master
- A bachelor's degree, or other university degree, UNIL recognises as equivalent to a Swiss bachelor's; some programmes set additional subject prerequisites.
- For French-taught programmes: C1 French. For English-taught programmes: an English test such as IELTS Academic 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 100 (the HEC Lausanne standard, used here as representative of UNIL's general English-taught master's requirement), certificate no more than 2 years old.
- Registration within the same general window as bachelor's admission, with variation by programme; check the specific master's own FAQ for its language-level requirement.
Documents
Secondary school diploma or bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts, with certified translations where the original is not in French, German, Italian or English; the CHF 200 administrative fee payment for candidates with a foreign diploma; a valid French or English language certificate matching the programme; passport or ID copy; and any programme-specific documents such as a CV or motivation letter.
How to apply
- Check your access route and country-specific conditions on the UNIL IMMAT registration pages (Directive 3.1).
- Confirm the language of your chosen programme and prepare the matching certificate.
- Register online within the published window (Directive 3.2): around 1 to 28 February if you will need a Swiss entry visa, or to 30 April if you will not, for the autumn semester.
- Pay the CHF 200 administrative fee for assessment of a foreign diploma, plus the CHF 580 semester fee once registered.
- Use the registration confirmation to apply for the Swiss national student visa if required.
- Complete enrolment formalities after arrival in Lausanne.
English test waiver
Confirmed on HEC Lausanne's (the business faculty's) own published table, used here as representative since UNIL states language requirements differ by specific master's programme: IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 100 (CBT 250, PBT 600), Cambridge C1 Advanced grade B or C2 Proficiency grade C, TOEIC 850, diploma no older than 2 years. Applicants should check their own programme's FAQ; a C1 level in the teaching language, French or English, is the general standard UNIL cites for its own Master's Grant scholarship eligibility.
