Foreign students apply to undergraduate degrees at the University of Colombo through the University Grants Commission, which charges a USD 100 processing fee, and selected candidates are admitted on a fee-paying basis. Postgraduate programmes take applications directly: the Master of Arts in International Relations for 2027/28 closes on 30 September 2026, with a USD 10 application fee for foreign students, and taught master's programmes at the Faculty of Graduate Studies charge a USD 40 application fee, with their next intakes in 2027. Undergraduate dates for 2026/27 and later have not been published. Applicants whose primary language is not English, or who studied in another language, must show TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5. The School of Computing charges foreign undergraduates an annual course fee of USD 6,000 for its Computer Science, Information Systems and Software Engineering degrees, and its master's programmes charge SAARC students less than other foreign students, for example USD 3,850 against USD 4,400 for the Master of Computer Science. International students need a Sri Lankan student visa, for which the university lists encashment receipts worth USD 1,500 per year per person.
