Aberdeen is Scotland's third oldest university, founded in 1495, with a medical and dental school and courses across arts, sciences and law. Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Scottish Highers, A-levels, the International Baccalaureate or another equivalent qualification at the level the specific course states, plus the Undergraduate Standard English requirement, IELTS 6.0 overall with Writing at least 6.0 and other skills at least 5.5; Medicine sets a higher level.

Master's degree

A relevant bachelor's degree, normally at 2:1 level or its overseas equivalent, plus the English language level the specific programme states. January 2027 entry closes 30 November 2026 for applicants needing a Student visa.

UCAS application and personal statement for undergraduate courses, or Aberdeen's own Postgraduate and Online Application Portal for Masters courses; academic transcripts and predicted or achieved grades; academic reference; English language test certificate at the required level; passport for identity and later for the Student visa.

How to apply

  1. Register with UCAS and choose Aberdeen as one of up to five choices for undergraduate study, or apply directly online for a Masters course.
  2. Check the specific course's entry requirements and English language level.
  3. Submit the UCAS application by 18:00 UK time on 13 January 2027 for 2027 entry; submit a Masters application for January 2027 entry by 30 November 2026 if a Student visa is needed, or by 7 December 2026 otherwise.
  4. Receive a decision; undergraduate offers are usually conditional on final grades.
  5. Meet the offer conditions, including the English language requirement.
  6. Apply for the Student visa, and budget for the UK Immigration Health Surcharge on top of tuition.

English test waiver

Aberdeen's Undergraduate Standard, confirmed directly on its own page, asks for IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with Listening, Reading and Speaking each at least 5.5 and Writing at least 6.0, or the equivalent TOEFL iBT 78 overall (tests before 21 January 2026), PTE Academic 59 overall with each skill at least 59, or Duolingo 105 overall with each sub score at least 95. This standard does not apply to Medicine (MBChB), which asks for a higher level.
