Requirements
Master (MSc in Nursing)
Applicants must satisfy one of the following:
- A Bachelor's Degree of SLQF Level 5 in Nursing, or
- A qualification of SLQF Level 6 or above in Nursing, or
- An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka
AND selection is based on a selection test and/or an interview.
General rule for all applicants with foreign qualifications (university-wide, stated by the International Relations Unit): candidates with results from a foreign examination held outside Sri Lanka that is deemed equivalent to the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of Sri Lanka, or an equivalent bachelor's-level entry qualification recognised in their own country, are eligible to apply. Applicants whose earlier education was not in English must also meet the English-language proficiency rule (TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5).

Based on OUSL's published application steps for foreign nationals and the Master of Science in Nursing programme's admission page:
- Duly completed online application
- Certified copies of degree certificates and other qualification certificates
- Birth certificate
- Passport (certified copy)
- Payment of the application fee
- Supporting documents for entry visa and, if the stay exceeds the entry visa's period, the resident student visa, submitted after an offer is made
How to apply
- Explore OUSL's website and contact the International Relations Unit (IRU) for programme details.
- Choose the programme of study (here, the MSc in Nursing) and confirm its entry requirements.
- Contact the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences for programme-specific questions.
- Ask the IRU about any scholarships that may apply.
- Optionally visit OUSL, arranged through the IRU.
- Apply online during the open application window; certified qualification documents, birth certificate and passport are uploaded with the application. For the current intake, applications opened September 8, 2026 and close October 8, 2026.
- After selection, the IRU assists with entry-visa and resident-visa arrangements for study in Sri Lanka.
English test waiver
Under the Open University of Sri Lanka's general rule for applicants with foreign qualifications, an applicant whose primary language is not English, or whose previous education was not in English, must show a TOEFL score of at least 79 or an IELTS score of at least 6.5. The rule applies to programmes conducted in English, which includes the Master of Science in Nursing.
