Requirements

Bachelor

General admission is based on completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent school leaving qualification. Candidates need at least 25 points in five qualifying subjects on NUST's Admission Point Scale, including a minimum E symbol in English on the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level, or the equivalent subject and grade on another recognised school leaving certificate.

Applicants who do not meet the general requirement but hold at least a Junior Secondary Certificate (Grade 10/Standard 8) may apply through the Mature Age Entry Scheme if they have reached 23 years of age by 1 January of the year admission is sought, completed school at least three years earlier, and can show three years of relevant work experience; they must also pass NUST's own Numeracy and English Language Proficiency tests.

Applicants with NQF credits or qualifications from another accredited institution may be admitted with Advanced Standing to a higher study level if their credits equal at least one study period (one semester or one year) of the programme applied for, and are not older than eight years.

Master

Admission to an Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 8) requires a Bachelor's degree at NQF Level 7 or an equivalent qualification in the relevant field of study. Admission to a Master's degree (NQF Level 9) requires a Bachelor Honours degree at NQF Level 8 or an equivalent qualification in the relevant field of study. Admission to a Doctoral degree (NQF Level 10) requires a Master's degree at NQF Level 9 or an equivalent qualification in the relevant field of study.

Documents

Standard application documents: a certified copy of a passport (non-Namibian applicants) or identity document/birth certificate (Namibian citizens); proof of payment of the application fee; latest school results such as the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate, or mid-year results for current Grade 11/12 learners; and a signed Declaration and Undertaking, co-signed by a parent or guardian if the applicant is under 18.

Foreign applicants must also submit their latest qualification in its original language together with an English translation if it is not already in English, and an evaluation of the qualification by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) if it was obtained outside the SADC region.

Postgraduate applicants must submit certified copies of qualifications obtained after Grade 12 and an original academic record or transcript; Master's and Doctoral applicants must also attach a research proposal or motivational letter and a CV with at least three referees.

For a Namibian study permit, international students are additionally asked to prepare proof of registration, copies of passport pages, two passport sized photographs, a completed Namibian Medical Certificate and Radiological Report, a Deed of Surety, an original police clearance certificate from the country of origin, a written undertaking with the sponsor's contact details, a motivation letter, proof of medical aid cover, and a lease agreement or proof of residence in Namibia.

How to apply

  1. Choose a qualification on the NUST website and check the admission requirements for that programme.
  2. Apply online through the NUST website, or apply manually by downloading the application form and submitting it, with certified supporting documents, at the Admissions Desk on the Main Campus, at a Regional Centre, or by courier.
  3. Pay the non-refundable application fee (N$150 for online undergraduate applications, N$240 for manual undergraduate applications, N$360 for postgraduate applications).
  4. Final offers, or provisional acceptance or rejection letters, are issued during November and December, including to international applicants who applied with their final school results.
  5. Applicants who received provisional acceptance and later meet the requirements receive final offers in January, after final school results are released.
  6. Register during January, using the admission letter, original supporting documents and proof of payment of registration fees.

English test waiver

NUST does not publish an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo minimum score for admission. Its published rule is that English counts among the subjects used to calculate the Admission Point Score, and applicants need at least an E symbol in English on the Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level or the equivalent subject and grade on another recognised school leaving certificate. All application documents must be in English, and if a qualification was issued in another language it must be submitted together with an official English translation. Qualifications obtained outside the SADC region must also be evaluated by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) before an application can be considered.
