Makerere University Admission 2027: Deadlines, Fees, Requirements

Makerere University admits international students through its private sponsorship scheme. For 2026/2027, undergraduate applications closed on 28 May 2026 after an extension, and graduate applications closed on 30 April 2026, also after an extension; the university says undergraduate applications normally open in mid-May each year and graduate applications in January. Dates for 2027/2028 have not been published. International undergraduate applicants pay an application fee of USD 75 or the equivalent, and international graduate applicants UGX 151,500. Ugandans and East Africans pay a lower tuition rate than other international students: in 2026/2027, Medicine and Surgery costs UGX 3,406,760 a semester for international students against UGX 2,044,056, Civil Engineering UGX 2,714,762 and Computer Science UGX 2,874,454. International undergraduates also pay functional fees of UGX 1,516,253 in semester one and UGX 132,250 in semester two. Applicants from countries where English is not the language of instruction must show evidence of English proficiency, and the School of Languages offers tests on request. Documents in languages other than English must be translated into English through the School of Languages.
