International applicants apply through ITU's Student Affairs Office international student route rather than the domestic placement exam. Requirements typically include an online application, an official high school transcript, a statement of purpose, and standardised test results such as SAT or ACT, or another accepted qualification such as the International Baccalaureate; ITU republishes the exact accepted list and minimum scores for each academic year on its Student Affairs site. How to apply

1. Check ITU's Student Affairs site for the current academic year's application conditions for international students, since the accepted exam list and scores are republished each year.
2. Prepare an official high school transcript, standardised test result and statement of purpose.
3. Apply online within the university's stated application window.
4. If admitted, pay the tuition fee shown on ITU's own fee pages through Vakifbank at registration.
5. Sit ITU's English proficiency exam at registration if not already holding an accepted external score, for English medium programmes.
6. After registering, apply for a residence permit through e-ikamet.

English test waiver

An English proficiency result accepted by the ITU Senate has to be submitted at registration before a student can take undergraduate courses. Anyone who cannot produce one takes the English Preparatory Class first. ITU does not accept IELTS for undergraduate entry: the accepted list is ITU's own proficiency exam at 60 out of 100, PTE Academic at 59 out of 90 from the 2026-2027 autumn semester onwards, TOEFL iBT, the Oxford Test of English Advanced at 111 out of 170, and e-Tep at 74 out of 118. Since January 2026 TOEFL iBT is read on the new band scale, where 4 to 4.5 clears the lower threshold and 5 to 5.5 the higher one. TOEFL iBT and PTE results are only accepted from test centres inside state universities, and the Home Edition of TOEFL iBT is not accepted at all. Students placed in programmes taught 30 percent in English, and in the Turkish Music State Conservatory, sit a different requirement from those in fully English-taught programmes.
