Freie Universität Berlin Tuition Fees 2027 for International Students

Freie Universitat Berlin (FU Berlin) is a public research university and, like Berlin's other state universities, charges no tuition fee to international students in its regular degree programmes. Applicants with a foreign degree apply for a preliminary document check through uni-assist before applying to a specific Master's programme.

FU Berlin charges no tuition fee for regular Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes, for any nationality, with the exception of a small number of continuing-education programmes such as the Master in Business and Competition Law (MBL-FU), which charges EUR 4,750 a term as a programme-specific fee. All students pay a semester contribution; for the 2026/27 winter semester this totals EUR 376.80, made up of a Studierendenwerk contribution of EUR 85, an administration fee of EUR 50, a student government contribution of EUR 10, a Semesterticket contribution of EUR 226.80, and a EUR 5 social fund payment.

Applying through uni-assist is not free. uni-assist charges a handling fee of EUR 75 for the first application in a semester and EUR 30 for each further application in the same semester. The fee is not refunded whatever the outcome, and some universities cover it for their applicants.
