Requirements
Bachelor's
A higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the Abitur is required, assessed for foreign applicants via uni-assist.
Master's
A relevant Bachelor's degree is required. Consecutive Master's programmes need a preliminary review of the foreign qualification (VPD) from uni-assist before the FU Berlin application can be processed.
Documents
A uni-assist VPD (preliminary review of your foreign qualification) requested well ahead of the deadline; certified copies of school and degree certificates and transcripts; a language certificate meeting the programme's required level; and, for many programmes, a CV and letter of motivation.
How to apply
- Request a VPD from uni-assist for your foreign qualification as early as possible.
- Choose a Master's programme and check its specific admission requirements and deadline.
- Submit your FU Berlin application with the VPD and all required documents before the deadline; only documents received in full by the deadline count.
- Wait for the admission decision.
- If admitted, apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU/EEA, arrange health insurance, pay the semester contribution, and enrol.
English test waiver
FU Berlin's baseline for English-taught Master's programmes is B2, shown on its central language-requirements page as a range from IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 72 to 94 depending on the exact sub-requirement. Some programmes ask for C1 instead, around IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95 and above.
