Ankara University is a public university in the Turkish capital, founded in 1946 as the first university established after the Republic, admitting international undergraduates through its own quota assessed mainly on the TR-YOS exam rather than the domestic placement test. Requirements

Bachelor's degree

A high school diploma or equivalent certificate from the applicant's home country, certified by the relevant official authorities. One of a published list of accepted exams, led by Ankara University's own TR-YOS, alongside others such as SAT, Abitur, International Baccalaureate and ACT with their own minimum scores set out in the university's valid exams document. Proficiency in Turkish or English depending on the programme, shown through TOEFL, IELTS, TR-YOS or a TÖMER Turkish proficiency certificate.

Passport copy. Proof of Turkish or English proficiency appropriate to the chosen programme's teaching language.

How to apply

  1. Check Ankara University's list of valid exams and their minimum scores, published each year by the International Student Office.
  2. Sit TR-YOS or hold another accepted exam result or diploma.
  3. Apply online inside the published window; the 2026-2027 cycle ran from 22 May 2026 09:30 to 26 June 2026 17:00, with no application fee.
  4. Wait for results and definitive registration dates, announced after the application window closes.
  5. Register by the announced deadline; the 2026-2027 registration period was later extended to 21 August 2026 for admitted students.
  6. Join Ankara University's General Health Insurance scheme on a monthly payment basis if not otherwise covered.
  7. After registering, apply for a residence permit through e-ikamet.

English test waiver

Ankara University asks for proficiency in Turkish or English depending on the chosen programme, accepting TOEFL, IELTS or TR-YOS as evidence, or a Turkish proficiency certificate from a TÖMER centre (the Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Centre) for Turkish medium programmes.
