How to Apply to Universities in India (2027): Step by Step
Foreign degree students in India need a student visa for on-campus, full-time study, granted for up to five years or the length of the course, or a one-year e-Student Visa. Students must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office within 14 days of arrival, may not take up employment, and do not get a work visa after graduation. At IIT Bombay, foreign nationals pay Rs 3,00,000 a semester for undergraduate study and SAARC students, including Bangladeshis, pay half the non-SAARC rate for master's and PhD programmes.
Apply to the institution. At IIT Bombay, international master's and PhD applications for the July intake open in the first week of January; foreign undergraduates apply through JEE Advanced.
Receive the admission (bonafide) letter.
Apply for a student visa at the Indian mission, or online for an e-Student Visa if eligible, with the admission letter and financial proof (a six-month bank statement or a US$200 foreign currency endorsement for Bangladeshi applicants).
Register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival through e-FRRO, and open a Non-Resident Ordinary bank account.
