Cambodia's English-taught private universities include the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP), established in 2013 as a Cambodian university and offering single degrees and dual degrees with the University of Arizona and Fort Hays State University. AUPP roughly follows the American academic calendar, with a Fall semester from mid-August to late December, a Spring semester from mid-January to early May and two six-week summer terms. It does not publish application deadlines, and all applicants pay a one-time, non-refundable application fee of USD 35.
Tuition at AUPP is charged per semester in US dollars. The single degree bachelor's programme costs USD 3,000 each Fall and Spring semester, or USD 6,000 a year, for a load of five courses or 15 credits, and the dual degree programme costs USD 4,500 a semester, or USD 9,000 a year. Master's courses cost USD 900 each for a single degree and USD 1,200 each for a dual degree, and every student pays an administration fee of USD 150 per term. The English Preparatory Program costs USD 3,000 per level for students who need to improve their English before starting a degree.
Bachelor's applicants take AUPP's free English Placement Test, or have it waived with a TOEFL iBT score of at least 79, an IELTS overall score of 6.0, a Duolingo score of 110 or a Cambridge score of 169, each earned within two years of applying. Holders of passports from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are not required to take the placement test. AUPP's Academic Excellence and Financial Need scholarships are based on grades in Cambodia's National Exam, and no scholarship is published specifically for international students.
Cambodia's e-visa portal lists tourist and business visas, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular fee table lists visa types that do not include a student category. The Immigration Department's service pages for visas and residence cards did not show any content when checked. For this reason no student visa rules are stated in this guide, and international students should confirm the correct visa type and extension procedure with a Cambodian embassy and with their university before travelling.
