How to Apply to Universities in Bulgaria (2027): Step by Step
Bulgaria's medical universities teach Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy in English to students from outside the EU for EUR 6,200 to EUR 10,000 a year in 2026-27, admitting them through online entrance exams in biology, chemistry and English. A non-EU student needs a long-stay D visa, costing EUR 100, and a Ministry of Education admission certificate, then a residence permit; students may work 20 hours a week in term and stay nine months after graduating to look for work.
Check the university's exam calendar. Plovdiv runs several online exam dates between April and September; Sofia opens document submission in late July.
Register online and pay the exam fees (EUR 55 plus EUR 210 in Sofia, EUR 300 per exam date in Plovdiv).
Sit the online exam in biology, chemistry and English.
Pay the pre-enrolment fee or first tuition and submit documents; the university requests your Ministry of Education admission certificate through the NACID register.
Apply for a long-stay D visa at the Bulgarian embassy or consulate for your home country, with the certificate; an interview is mandatory.
Apply for the residence permit at the Migration Directorate after arrival, with proof of means and medical insurance.
