Yıldız Technical University Admission Requirements 2027

Yildiz Technical University is a public technical university in Istanbul, founded in 1911, with campuses at Besiktas and Davutpasa. It admits international undergraduates on its own quota without any entrance exam of its own, charges the same tuition for every faculty, and requires every international student to reach a stated level of Turkish within a year of registering.

English test waiver

Language rules at Yildiz are set by the Senate and are unusually strict on Turkish. A student admitted to a fully English-taught programme is exempt from the English preparatory year only if they meet the conditions in Article 8 of the School of Foreign Languages Teaching and Examination Directive, most commonly by passing the school's own English proficiency exam, which is held several times a year; everyone else spends a year in English preparatory study. Separately, and regardless of the language of the degree, every international student has to produce a Turkish certificate within one year of registering: C1 for programmes taught wholly in Turkish or 30 percent in English, and B1 for programmes taught wholly in English, issued by the university's own TOMER centre or the Yunus Emre Institute. A student who misses that deadline is granted one further year of leave, cannot start classes in the meantime, and is deregistered by the Student Affairs Directorate if the certificate still does not arrive. Students holding citizenship of Northern Cyprus are not asked for the Turkish certificate.
