Requirements
Bachelor and diploma
General university entrance qualification met in the country of origin, submitted with legalised documents and a court-certified translation where the original is not in German or English. Several bachelor's programmes (biology, pharmacy, sports science, teacher training, microbiology, psychology) run their own entrance exam with a separate, later deadline. German-taught programmes need German A2 to apply and C1 to start; English-taught programmes need English at C1 (IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 95, PTE 76).
Master
A completed bachelor's degree recognised as giving entry to the field. Most master's programmes admit without an entrance exam in a window that opens earlier than the bachelor's window; Master's Psychology runs its own entrance exam. Language requirement follows the programme: German A2 to apply/C1 to start for German-taught programmes, or English C1 for English-taught programmes.
PhD
A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme.
Documents
Original school leaving certificate or prior degree certificate meeting legalisation requirements under the Austrian Code of Civil Procedure (ZPO). Court-certified translation, uploaded with the originals, for any educational document not already in German or English. Original language proficiency certificate (English or German, matching the programme). Passport copy.
How to apply
- Identify your programme's application window; entrance-exam programmes have their own separate, often later, deadline.
- Apply online within your correct window; applying outside it can bring a two-semester reapplication ban.
- Upload your legalised school leaving or degree certificate, court-certified translation if needed, and language certificate.
- Sit any entrance exam your programme requires.
- Receive the admission decision and complete enrolment, including the tuition fee where it applies and the ÖH union fee.
English test waiver
The general minimum is C1 level: Cambridge CAE 180 (Grade C or better), Telc C1 or Cambridge CPE also accepted. Certificates must not be more than 5 years old at application. TOEFL introduced a new scoring scale from 2026; Graz lists the equivalent minimum as a score of at least 5 on that new scale alongside the legacy 95 iBT score.
