The University of Dar es Salaam began in 1961 as a college of the University of London and became a full university by Act of Parliament on 1 July 1970. It had 40,918 students in 2024/2025. In 2026/2027, non-Tanzanian undergraduates pay tuition of TZS 5,565,000 to TZS 9,275,000 a year, and postgraduate applications for the October intake close on 30 September 2026.
