Requirements
Bachelor's
A higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the Abitur is required.
Master's
A relevant Bachelor's degree is required. Applicants whose degree is from a foreign university need a uni-assist VPD before applying, and subject-specific admission requirements are published per programme.
Documents
A uni-assist VPD for a foreign first degree; certified copies of school and degree certificates and transcripts; a language certificate meeting the programme's required level (TOEFL applicants should use uni-assist code 2727 for the test centre); and, for many programmes, a CV and letter of motivation.
How to apply
- Register with uni-assist and request a VPD for your foreign qualification well ahead of TU Berlin's deadline, since this can take several weeks.
- Choose a programme and note whether it has restricted or open admission and its language of instruction, since each has a different deadline.
- Submit your application by the relevant date: 15 May (English-taught, restricted), 15 June (German-taught, restricted) or 31 August (open admission) for the winter semester.
- Wait for the admission decision.
- If admitted, apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU/EEA, arrange health insurance, pay the semester contribution, and enrol.
English test waiver
TU Berlin's Faculty IV asks specifically for IELTS 6.5 even though a B2-level 5.5 would otherwise satisfy the CEFR requirement; other faculties cite figures from TOEFL iBT 80 to 87 and IELTS 6.5, with PTE Academic 65 or higher also accepted in some. A recognised prior degree taught fully in English from a defined list of predominantly English-speaking countries can be accepted instead of a test.
