Requirements
Bachelor
- Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss for an access credential.
- Applicants from any other foreign school system: obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education first, then register with UNEDasiss.
- Apply within UPM's own admission window for students with foreign educational systems, which runs later in the year than the general national calendar.
- English at CEFR B2 (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 72, among other accepted certificates, or UPM's internal SAI exam) is required to complete the bachelor's degree, though not necessarily to start it.
Master
- A bachelor's degree from an EHEA institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UPM's own verification that the prior degree is of an equivalent academic level.
- Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
- For the Master's in Architecture and other programmes with an English requirement, CEFR B2, evidenced by IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 or another certificate on UPM's accepted list.
Documents
Passport or national ID copy; the UNEDasiss or UNED access/homologation credential (bachelor applicants); academic transcripts and, where applicable, the prior degree certificate (master applicants); and, where required, an English certificate meeting UPM's B2 standard.
How to apply
- Confirm the correct access route (UNEDasiss only, or Ministry of Education homologacion first) for bachelor applicants; master applicants confirm whether their prior degree needs UPM's equivalence check.
- Register with UNEDasiss (bachelor) or gather transcripts and certificates (master) well before the relevant deadline.
- Apply within UPM's own admission window for students with foreign educational systems (bachelor) or through UPM's master's preinscripcion process (master).
- Submit the required documents by the published deadline.
- Wait for the admission result, then complete matricula (enrolment) and pay the corresponding tuition within the published enrolment window.
- Use the acceptance and enrolment documents to apply for the Spanish national student visa.
English test waiver
UPM's own school-level pages state that a Bachelor's degree is only awarded once a student accredits English at CEFR B2, following CRUE (the Spanish rectors' conference) guidelines, and give IELTS 5.5 or higher and TOEFL iBT 72 or higher (out of 120, in effect since January 2015) as automatically recognised evidence, alongside certificates such as UNIcert Level 2, CLES 2 or TELC B2. Students without a certificate can instead sit UPM's own internal SAI B2 exam, held twice a year.
