Nagoya University Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

Nagoya University is a national research university in Aichi Prefecture and one of the original group of Japanese universities chosen for the government's Global 30 (G30) internationalisation initiative. Its G30 International Programs still operate today as the university's main international undergraduate route, offering ten degree programmes taught fully in English across six broad fields: Automotive Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Science, Social Science, and Japan-in-Asia Cultural Studies. Applicants need no Japanese language ability at the point of entry, though Japanese classes are built into the curriculum.

G30 undergraduate admission runs at least one main round a year, roughly ten to eleven months before the October intake begins: for the 2027 intake, a first round opened 2 November 2026 and closed 19 November 2026, with a second round in January 2027 for programmes with places still open. Each programme publishes its own detailed admission requirements document each year covering required documents, English test thresholds and any subject-specific tests, alongside the shared G30 English test floor of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80. Nagoya charges the same standard national tuition to Japanese and international students, and separately admits graduate students through individual graduate schools, several of which also run their own English-taught G30 master's and doctoral programmes with their own deadlines.

Requirements

Bachelor's (G30 International Programs)

Applicants need to have completed, or be on track to complete, 12 years of school education recognised as equivalent to Japanese upper secondary school, meeting each programme's own subject prerequisites (for example mathematics and physics for the Automotive Engineering programme). No Japanese ability is required at entry.

Master's and PhD

Each graduate school sets its own requirements; several also run English-taught G30 graduate programmes with their own published admission requirements, generally expecting a relevant Bachelor's degree (or Master's degree for doctoral study) recognised as equivalent to a Japanese degree.
