Kumamoto University Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Kumamoto University is a national university on Kyushu with faculties in letters, education, law, medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, science and technology, and cross-disciplinary fields. Undergraduate teaching is conducted in Japanese, and privately-financed international undergraduate applicants apply through the standard route built around the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students, so there is no general English-medium bachelor's degree with a published deadline. At graduate level, the Graduate School of Science and Technology, known as GSST, runs English-medium admission for international master's and doctoral students, including through the International Joint Education Program, IJEP, built on partnerships with universities worldwide. GSST publishes its application windows as closed or open cycles rather than a single fixed date each year, typically running one window ahead of April entry and one ahead of October entry; at the time of this research the most recently published cycle was for October 2026 entry, with the following year's cycle not yet posted. The IELTS test provider's own recognition page lists a minimum IELTS Academic score of 6.5 for Kumamoto University's postgraduate admissions. Tuition and fees follow the Japanese national university standard rate across every level.

Requirements

Master

GSST admits international master's and doctoral applicants who hold, or expect to hold, a bachelor's degree in a relevant science or engineering field. IELTS Academic 6.5 is the minimum listed by the IELTS test provider for Kumamoto University postgraduate admission. Applicants for the IJEP route need a supervisor arranged in advance where the guidelines require one.
