Graz University of Technology Admission Requirements 2026

Graz University of Technology, founded in 1811, is Austria's oldest university of technology and its second largest, offering engineering, computer science and natural science programmes mostly in German with a growing number of English-taught master's programmes.

Requirements

Bachelor

A school leaving certificate with grade list; where it is not equivalent to the Austrian Matura, the university decides case by case whether supplementary exams or courses are needed. Architecture and Molecular Biology run their own admission procedure with a later deadline. German-taught programmes need German A2 to apply; English-taught programmes need English at C1 (IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT 95, PTE 76).

Master

A certificate of a completed undergraduate degree and a transcript of records showing subjects, grades and credits. Language requirement follows the programme: German for German-taught programmes, English at C1 for English-taught programmes, which run their own admission procedure.

PhD

A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme; language requirement follows the programme's language of instruction.

School-leaving certificate with grade list and last school year's grade report (bachelor's), or certificate of completed undergraduate degree with full transcript of records (master's). Language proficiency certificate matching the programme. Passport copy and CV. Country-specific supporting documents apply for a number of countries; check the university's country-specific list before applying.

How to apply

Check whether your programme runs a standard admission or its own admission procedure with a separate deadline.
Apply online within the published period for your level and programme type.
Submit your school leaving or degree certificate, transcript, language certificate, passport copy and CV, following any country-specific requirements that apply to you.
Complete any supplementary exam or course the university decides you need if your prior qualification is not equivalent to the Austrian Matura.
Receive the admission decision and enrol, paying the tuition fee where it applies and the ÖH union fee each semester.

English test waiver

Cambridge Advanced English (CAE, minimum 180 points/Grade C), Cambridge Proficiency English and Telc C1 are also accepted. A school-leaving exam taken in English in an EU/EEA country, or a degree of at least two years taught in English in the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the UK or the USA, can substitute for a test.
