Requirements
Bachelor
Applicants and both parents must hold non-Korean nationality (Korean nationality of either must be formally renounced before the application period if ever held), and Ewha accepts female applicants only. Freshman applicants must have graduated or be expected to graduate from high school by February 2027; GED, homeschooling, cyber schooling and other equivalency certificates are not accepted. Transfer applicants need at least two completed academic years (or an associate degree) at a recognised institution. The Division of International Studies and Global Korean Studies additionally require an English proficiency score or proof of English-medium secondary education at the point of application; other majors have no language requirement to apply but must reach TOPIK level 3 within a year and level 4 before graduation.
Master's and PhD
The General Graduate School requires a relevant bachelor's degree (or master's for doctoral applicants) by February 2027 and one of TOPIK level 4, completion of a Korean-language programme at level 4 or above, TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.0, New TEPS 326, or completion of schooling entirely in Korean or English; certain departments (Law, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Clinical Medicine, Dental Medicine, Early Childhood Education, Musicology) set further eligibility conditions such as prior professional experience or a matching undergraduate major.
Documents
Application form, personal statement (undergraduate) or study plan (graduate), copies of the applicant's and parents' passports, official (expected) graduation certificate and full transcripts, a language proficiency document where applicable, and, for Music, Art and Design, Kinesiology and Sports Studies or Content Convergence (Media Design) applicants, a portfolio, recorded performance or other materials showing artistic or athletic ability. Academic documents from outside Korea need an apostille or Korean consular authentication (or CHSI verification for Chinese schools), and documents not in Korean or English need a certified translation.
How to apply
- Confirm your major choice, since applicants may apply to only one programme of study.
- Apply online within the published window, upload documents in PDF, and pay the application fee, since payment and an assigned application number complete the application.
- Submit any required portfolio, recording or practical-ability material by the same deadline, in person or by post for programmes that require it.
- Attend an interview or practical exam if your department requires one (compulsory, in-person, for the undergraduate Department of Voice and equivalent graduate Voice majors).
- Watch for preliminary admission results, then submit original hard copies of every document by the stated deadline, since preliminary admission is revoked if these are missing.
- If your language proficiency was conditional, submit your TOPIK level 4 certificate within the separate window Ewha announces for it.
- Watch for final admission results, then complete enrolment steps: statement of intent to register, final academic documents, a bank balance certificate of at least KRW 20,000,000, and tuition payment.
English test waiver
Most Ewha undergraduate majors have no English or Korean proficiency requirement at entry; all new freshmen except Nursing and the Division of International Studies/Global Korean Studies must complete a year in the HOKMA College of General Education and reach TOPIK level 3 before starting major courses, and TOPIK level 4 before graduating regardless of which language route they entered under. The Division of International Studies and Global Korean Studies, taught entirely in English, are the exception and require TOEFL iBT 80 or above (4.0 or above on the redesigned scale for tests from 21 January 2026), IELTS Academic 6.0, New TEPS 326, or proof that secondary education was conducted entirely in English, at the point of application.
