Carnegie Mellon University Africa Scholarships 2027

Carnegie Mellon University Africa in Kigali, a Carnegie Mellon location established in 2011 under an agreement with the Government of Rwanda, offers master's degrees in information technology, electrical and computer engineering and engineering artificial intelligence. Tuition for 2025-2026 is USD 16,000 a year for African students and USD 60,300 for other international students, and there is no application fee. Applications open on 1 October each year.

Financial aid at CMU-Africa is need-based and includes Government of Rwanda grants, loans and East African Community scholarships, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, the Innovators Forward Fellowship Fund and other awards; the FAQ states that only admitted applicants of African nationality are eligible. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, established in 2016, covers tuition and fees, health insurance, travel, basic living expenses and project support for admitted students facing high social and economic barriers; the Class of 2026 includes 57 Mastercard Foundation Scholars.
