Carnegie Mellon University Africa Admission Requirements 2027

Carnegie Mellon University Africa in Kigali, a Carnegie Mellon location established in 2011 under an agreement with the Government of Rwanda, offers master's degrees in information technology, electrical and computer engineering and engineering artificial intelligence. Tuition for 2025-2026 is USD 16,000 a year for African students and USD 60,300 for other international students, and there is no application fee. Applications open on 1 October each year.

English test waiver

CMU-Africa recommends a minimum of 81 on the TOEFL, 6.5 on IELTS and 120 on the Duolingo English Test; at-home and test-centre versions are treated the same, and enrolled students with lower English levels may be required to take an Academic Skills course in their first year. Applicants with an undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University, or from a university in the US, UK or Canada (excluding Quebec), are exempt from the English test.
