American University of Beirut Admission Requirements 2027

The American University of Beirut enrolled 9,759 students from 90 countries as of 15 October 2025, 17% of them international, and teaches in English. Tuition for 2026-2027 is charged per credit, from USD 732 for undergraduate nursing to USD 1,044 for financial economics, and up to USD 1,281 for graduate engineering. Freshman applications for Fall 2027-28 open on 1 November 2026 and close on 20 December 2026.

English test waiver

All teaching at AUB is in English except certain language courses, and every applicant must prove English proficiency regardless of citizenship. Graduate applicants meet the requirement with TOEFL iBT 97 or above, IELTS Academic 7.0 or above, Duolingo 120 or above, AUB-EN 40 or above, GRE Verbal 147 or GMAT Verbal 25; slightly lower scores (for example TOEFL 88 to 96 or IELTS 6.0) admit students who must take an extra English course. Graduates of AUB or of universities in North America, Great Britain, Australia or New Zealand are exempt. Undergraduate applicants are placed in English courses rather than admitted on a minimum: an SAT English score of 530 or above, or AUB-EN 40, TOEFL iBT 4.5 on the scale used from 21 January 2026, or IELTS Academic 6.5, places a student in English 102, and lower scores lead to intensive English courses.
