Foreign degree students in Peru apply to the National Superintendency of Migration, while outside the country, for training resident status covering undergraduate and postgraduate university study; it costs PEN 58.80 and gives a stay of 365 days, extendable for the same period. Peru's universities teach mainly in Spanish and start the academic year in March. At the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) in Lima, founded in 1917, undergraduate tuition is charged per credit on nine levels assigned after a family income assessment, from PEN 304.60 to PEN 1,164.10 a credit in 2026, and students whose families do not take part are placed on the highest level. Master's programmes quote a total price, such as PEN 32,468 for the Master's in Sociology. Holders of the International Baccalaureate, Abitur, French Baccalauréat, Italian Maturità or Cambridge AICE diploma can apply for the first semester of 2027 until 20 January 2027, and master's and doctoral registration runs until 16 February 2027, with classes from 22 March; applications cost PEN 550. Each undergraduate semester is paid in five instalments, and the credit value may change each year with inflation. Documents issued abroad must carry the Hague Apostille or be legalised.

The National Superintendency of Migration grants training resident status (calidad migratoria de formación residente) to foreigners for studies including undergraduate and postgraduate university education. Applicants file online while outside Peru and provide the application form, the fee receipt, a copy of a valid passport, a police, criminal and judicial record certificate covering the last five years, a sworn statement of financial means and proof of enrolment for studies lasting at least one year. Foreign documents must be legalised or apostilled and translated into Spanish. The fee is PEN 58.80. The stay is 365 days and can be extended for the same period, applying 30 days before it expires, for a fee of PEN 20.20.

Students who need to work can apply for an extraordinary work permit, which allows temporary work for a maximum of 60 days and, for students, covers professional internships or work during holiday periods; it costs PEN 19.10.
