Most Moroccan public universities teach in Arabic and French, while Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, founded by royal decree in 1993, follows the American liberal arts model and teaches in English. Al Akhawayn enrolled 3,750 students in Fall 2023. As published in September 2026, international undergraduates pay MAD 3,360 per credit with a normal load of 15 to 17 credits a semester, and international graduate students pay MAD 4,000 or MAD 4,200 per credit depending on the page consulted. Applicants living outside Morocco pay an application fee of MAD 800. All non-native English speakers need a TOEFL score, iBT 71 with 19 in writing for undergraduates and iBT 79 for graduate study, or IELTS, and lower scores can lead to the university's Language Center. Undergraduate scholarships at Al Akhawayn are reserved for Moroccan students, and application deadlines are not published.
Morocco's consular service lists a visa category for students, trainees and researchers. Applicants submit the visa application form, two photographs and a valid passport with a copy, together with one or more of the following: an enrolment or scholarship certificate from the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) or another official body financing training in Morocco, a certificate of enrolment at a Moroccan public university or higher education institution, or a signed and legalised sponsorship from a close relative or guarantor living in Morocco. The applicant must prove sufficient means of subsistence for the duration of the course and sign an undertaking to leave Morocco when the residence permit expires. No minimum amount is published.
A Moroccan visa is valid from one day to three months, or one year in exceptional cases. A foreigner with a long-validity visa who wants to stay in Morocco for more than three months must apply to the General Directorate of National Security for a registration card. The type of visa cannot be changed after the holder has entered Morocco.
