How to Apply to Universities in Malta (2027): Step by Step

Malta is an English-speaking EU country whose main university, the University of Malta, charges students from outside the EU EUR 10,800 to EUR 13,400 for its 2026-27 master's programmes and EUR 26,000 a year for Medicine. Non-EU applicants who need a visa face an earlier deadline, 1 July for October 2026 entry, and must get a long-stay D visa before arriving, then a residence permit costing EUR 50. Graduates can stay nine months to look for work.

Degree programmes at the University of Malta

  1. Choose a course and check its tuition on the course overview page.
  2. Note the early deadline for visa applicants. For October 2026 non-EU applicants needing a visa had to apply by 1 July at 14:00; Medicine closed on 30 January.
  3. Apply online and pay the EUR 100 processing fee (EUR 200 for a late application).
  4. Submit your English result by the same early date if you need a visa.
  5. Apply for a national long-stay D visa at least nine weeks before the course starts.
  6. Apply for the residence permit in person in Malta through the Expatriates Unit, with the EUR 50 fee.
  7. Get a Jobsplus employment licence before taking any part-time job.
