Scholarships to Study in Latvia (2027) for International Students

Latvia's universities in Riga teach bachelor's and master's degrees in English for roughly EUR 3,000 to EUR 6,600 a year, while medicine and dentistry cost EUR 11,850 to EUR 17,310. Students from outside the EU need a temporary residence permit for study, may work 20 hours a week during term and 40 in breaks, and full-time master's and doctoral graduates can stay nine months after graduating. A new Immigration Law took effect on 15 September 2026.

The Latvian State Scholarships, administered by the State Education Development Agency (VIAA), are open only to citizens of countries that have signed an education cooperation agreement with Latvia. For 2026-27 the call opened on 1 February and closed on 1 April 2026, and awards are capped at 10% of the total for any single country. University-funded support for non-EU degree students is limited: RSU's tuition discounts, funded from its own resources, are mainly for students already in its Medicine and Dentistry programmes, and the University of Latvia offers a EUR 2,000 Baltic Universities Scholarship for students who speak all three Baltic languages.
