How to Apply to Universities in France (2027): Step by Step

France teaches on the three-cycle Licence-Master-Doctorat system, mostly in French at public universities and often in English at the grandes ecoles. Non-EU students pay a government-set differentiated tuition rate at public universities unless the institution waives it, plus their own program fees at the grandes ecoles.

Bachelor's degree (Licence)

  1. Choose a university and check whether it takes first-year applicants through DAP (Demande d'Admission Prealable) or through Parcoursup.
  2. As a Bangladeshi applicant, submit the DAP file to the cooperation and cultural action department of the French Embassy in Dhaka. The DAP window generally runs from October to mid-December for the September entry the following year.
  3. Sit any language test the programme asks for: TCF, DELF or DALF for French-taught programmes, or IELTS or TOEFL for the small number taught in English.
  4. Wait for the university's pedagogical decision, generally by the end of April, and confirm the place by the date the university gives, generally end of May.
  5. Once admitted, apply for the long-stay student visa at the French Embassy in Dhaka.

Master's degree

  1. Contact the institution's admissions office or the programme directly. Bangladesh does not go through the Etudes en France platform, so there is no single national portal for a Bangladeshi applicant.
  2. Submit the application through the platform the university names, commonly eCandidat or a programme-specific portal, with transcripts, a bachelor's degree or equivalent, a CV, a motivation letter and any language test result the programme asks for.
  3. Wait for the admission decision. Most French master's programmes decide between April and September for a September start, and some run rolling admissions.
  4. Once admitted, apply for the long-stay student visa (VLS-TS, mention "etudiant") at the French Embassy in Dhaka.
  5. After arriving in France, validate the visa online within 3 months of arrival through the ANEF portal.

Doctorate

  1. Find a supervisor and a laboratory willing to take the research project; doctoral admission in France starts with agreement from a supervisor, not a general application form.
  2. Register with the doctoral school the laboratory belongs to, and confirm the funding source (contract, scholarship or personal funds).
  3. Apply for the appropriate long-stay visa (a talent passport - researcher, or a student visa, depending on the funding arrangement), then complete the same post-arrival validation as other students.
