International students in Egypt enter on a visa that states study as the purpose and then obtain a residency permit after arrival. At the American University in Cairo the residency visa costs EGP 7,100, government approvals last four years and cards are renewed every year. AUC charges international students US$735 per credit hour in 2026-27, and its graduate applications for Spring 2027 close on 1 October 2026.
AUC awards Excellence Scholarships to international undergraduates in its International Diversity category, covering 20% to 30% of tuition, and International Graduate Fellowships and African Graduate Fellowships that cover tuition for up to nine credits a semester, a stipend, fees, insurance and housing support.
