How to Apply to Universities in Egypt (2027): Step by Step

International students in Egypt enter on a visa that states study as the purpose and then obtain a residency permit after arrival. At the American University in Cairo the residency visa costs EGP 7,100, government approvals last four years and cards are renewed every year. Degree study in Egypt (AUC example)

  1. Apply to the university. At AUC, graduate applications for Spring 2027 close on 1 October 2026 and undergraduate on 1 November 2026.
  2. Show funds and English. AUC asks non-Egyptian undergraduates for proof of US$33,000 for the first year.
  3. Get a 90-day visa from the Egyptian consulate, stating study as the purpose.
  4. Register your passport within seven days of arrival if your country is on the list (EGP 110).
  5. Apply for residency through the university; the residency visa costs EGP 7,100 and cards are renewed yearly.
