Requirements
Bachelor
Admission is based on the applicant's secondary school record in the courses required for the chosen program; specific prerequisites and competitive averages vary by program. Bachelor of Education (Fredericton and Saint John), Kinesiology and Nursing admit for the Fall term only and have their own earlier deadlines. There is no single published minimum average across all programs.
Graduate
Set by the individual graduate program; applicants should confirm requirements, references and, for research programs, a supervisor, on the specific program's page.
Documents
Official transcripts in required prerequisite courses; English proficiency test results unless exempt; a copy of the passport information page for the later study permit application.
How to apply
- Confirm your program's prerequisite courses and English test minimum.
- Apply online directly to UNB and pay the non-refundable application fee.
- Arrange transcripts and English test scores to reach the university.
- Track your application and respond to document requests through UNB's applicant portal.
- Accept an offer of admission.
- Apply for a study permit; UNB recommends applying by 1 June for a September start.
English test waiver
Nursing, Education and Arts programs on the Fredericton campus, and Nursing and Health Sciences on the Saint John campus, require a higher IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent than general admission. TOEFL iBT scores from tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 use a new scale, with a minimum of 4.5 overall and no less than 4.5 in speaking and writing. Applicants who fall short can pursue conditional admission through a full-time pathway program, such as PAEP in Fredericton or Saint John College's EAP program.
