Nicolaus Copernicus University is a large public university in Torun, offering English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes across chemistry, physics, economics, political science and the humanities. Requirements

Bachelor

  • A secondary school certificate qualifying for higher education in its country of issue, apostilled or legalised outside the EU.
  • English proficiency at CEFR B2 or above under the national regulation: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 59, TOEIC 785 (Listening and Reading), or an accepted Cambridge, Trinity or IB/EB qualification.
  • Programme-specific requirements set by the admitting faculty.

Master

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • The same B2 English minimum as bachelor level.
  • Programme-specific requirements set by the admitting faculty.

Documents

Passport copy; secondary school certificate or prior degree diploma and transcript, apostilled or legalised where issued outside the EU; proof of English proficiency under the national regulation; parental consent for applicants under 18; and any further documents the admitting faculty requests once qualified.

How to apply

  1. Choose a programme and check which of the three admission phases it runs in.
  2. Register in IRK (irk.umk.pl), enter your education record and upload the required documents.
  3. Pay the PLN 85 application fee by the phase's registration deadline.
  4. Sit any required exam or interview during the phase's exam window.
  5. Check your result once published.
  6. If admitted, pay at least one semester's tuition, ideally before applying for the visa, and complete enrolment.
  7. Apply for the national type D student visa.

English test waiver

NCU's own fees-and-documents page links directly to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education's national regulation of 30 July 2025 (Journal of Laws 2025, item 1045) as the basis for accepted language certificates, rather than setting its own separate scale; Cambridge B2 First and above, Trinity ISE II and above, TOEIC (785 Listening and Reading, 150 Speaking, 160 Writing), and an IB or EB diploma are accepted under the same regulation.
