Requirements

Bachelor

PEARL (Faculty of Economics) and GIGA (Faculty of Policy Management / Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) admit international applicants who have completed, or are expected to complete, 12 years of school education equivalent to a Japanese high school diploma. Both ask for a TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS Academic score from every applicant and either SAT or IB results; there is no published minimum score for either test.

Master

Graduate School of Economics general admission for international applicants runs two application periods a year, for April and September enrolment, and asks for transcripts, a research plan and an interview; specific English test requirements are set by each graduate school.

Documents

Academic transcripts, a diploma or certificate of expected graduation, TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS Academic score reports, SAT or IB Diploma results, a personal statement, at least one letter of recommendation, and a valid passport copy. PEARL splits the personal statement into three parts addressing motivation, achievement and future goals.

How to apply

  1. Choose PEARL (economics) or GIGA (policy management / environment and information studies) at undergraduate level, or the relevant graduate school for a master's or doctoral route.
  2. Register and submit the online application within the stated period, uploading transcripts, test scores and personal statements.
  3. Pay the application fee by credit card.
  4. Attend an online interview if shortlisted.
  5. Accept the offer and pay the admission fee and first semester's tuition by the stated deadline.

English test waiver

PEARL and GIGA require every applicant, including native English speakers, to submit TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS Academic scores, but Keio states plainly there is no cut-off score for either test; admission is a holistic review alongside SAT or IB results and an essay.
