Admission at a glance

Hiroshima University is a national research university based in Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, with roots as one of Japan's former imperial-era universities and a broad range of faculties. Its main dedicated route for English-taught international undergraduate admission is the Department of Integrated Global Studies (IGS), within the School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, created together with a new School of Informatics and Data Science as part of a wider reorganisation. IGS is deliberately small, admitting around 20 students a year in total, and unlike several other universities in this dataset it enrols only in April, with no September or October intake.

IGS runs four separate selection systems (A to D) rather than one application round, each with its own exam format, timing and English test threshold: System A holds a document and interview-based exam around July for applicants applying from overseas well ahead of time; Systems B and C both examine in November, with B aimed at overseas-based applicants and C run on campus at a lower English threshold; System D examines in February for on-campus applicants and shares System A's higher English requirement. Hiroshima charges the standard national tuition and fees to every student regardless of nationality. Only the months each system's application window falls in were confirmed during this review; the exact opening and closing days are published in a separate Application Guide released closer to each system's own cycle.

Requirements

Bachelor's (Integrated Global Studies)

Applicants need to have completed, or be on track to complete, 12 years of school education recognised as equivalent to Japanese upper secondary school. No Japanese ability is required; English test thresholds differ by selection system, with System C (on-campus) set lower than Systems A, B and D.

Master's and PhD

Each graduate school sets its own requirements and deadline; a relevant Bachelor's degree (or Master's degree for doctoral study) recognised as equivalent to a Japanese degree is the general baseline.
