Ernst Mach Grant - Worldwide 2026

The Ernst Mach Grant - Worldwide is a research mobility grant funded by Austria's Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research and administered by OeAD, Austria's agency for education and internationalisation. It is open to graduates, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and young lecturers from universities outside Austria, in any field of study, who want to spend one to nine months in Austria working on a diploma thesis, doctoral thesis, postdoctoral research or a defined research project; extensions beyond nine months are not possible. Applicants need an Austrian academic supervisor willing to host the research stay before they apply. The grant pays a flat rate of EUR 1,300 a month for the length of the stay, plus a one-off travel cost subsidy of up to EUR 1,200, and OeAD helps arrange accommodation and health insurance. Applications go through OeAD's online grants.at portal. For research stays within the 2026/27 academic year, 1 October 2026 to 31 August 2027, the closing date was 1 February 2026. OeAD runs related but separate Ernst Mach variants with their own terms and their own deadlines: one for study at an Austrian university of applied sciences, open to undergraduate and graduate students, and one under the ASEA-UNINET partnership, limited to applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam; neither is covered by this record.
