Study in Uruguay: Admission, Cost, Visa and Scholarships (2027)

Uruguay's universities teach mainly in Spanish, and the academic year starts in March. Universidad de Montevideo, a private university whose origins go back to 1986, has opened admissions for 2027, with programmes such as Chemical Engineering starting in March 2027. Its admission process consists of an interview, an aptitude test and delivery of documents. International applicants for full degrees provide a valid passport copy, their secondary school diploma and transcript, with an apostille for documents from Hague Convention countries, and revalidation of secondary studies is granted by Uruguay's Board of Secondary Education. Full programmes are mostly taught in Spanish. The university publishes tuition for only one programme, the online Digital Business degree at UYU 24,900 a month for four years, adjusted for inflation.

The Ministry of the Interior's migration service grants temporary legal residence to students. It is granted for up to one year and can be renewed for equal periods, and extensions must be requested within 90 days before expiry. Applicants provide an identity photograph, the identity document used to enter the country, criminal record certificates from the country of birth and from countries lived in during the last five years, a valid Uruguayan vaccination certificate, an occupational health card and an official certificate from the educational institution. They must also show means of support sufficient for their maintenance, which a family member may provide. Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalised and translated by a Uruguayan public translator. The procedure costs 557.30 indexed units (UI), a unit whose peso value is set by Uruguay's central bank. Applicants who need a visa to enter must hold a valid one, and Uruguay's visa regime lists Bangladesh among the countries whose citizens need a visa. The migration pages do not publish a processing time for temporary residence, a minimum amount of funds, weekly work limits for students or a post-study route.
