How to Apply to Universities in Uganda (2027): Step by Step
Foreign students in Uganda need a student pass from the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, granted for 3, 6 or 12 months at a standard fee of USD 100, which East African nationals do not pay. At Makerere University, international students pay a higher tuition rate than Ugandans and East Africans, for example UGX 3,406,760 a semester for Medicine and Surgery in 2026/2027.
Apply to the university (Makerere's international undergraduate application fee is USD 75).
Receive the admission letter and pay fees.
Apply for a student pass with student ID, passport copy, photo, the school's support and admission letters, proof of fee payment and your current immigration status.
Pay USD 100 at the point of application (East African nationals exempt).
