How to Apply to Universities in Kenya (2027): Step by Step
Foreign nationals who want to study in Kenya need a Student's Pass from the Directorate of Immigration Services, arranged with the educational institution that has admitted them. The pass costs 100 US dollars a year for applicants from outside the East African Community, and nationals of East African Community member states pay no fee. Applicants provide an institution-endorsed Form 30, admission and sponsorship documents, and proof of funds if self-sponsored. At United States International University-Africa in Nairobi, a private university, non-East African students pay 30 percent above local tuition rates, for example KES 171,600 for a 12-unit semester of a business bachelor's degree in 2025-2026.
Apply to a Kenyan university (for example USIU-Africa's Fall, Spring or Summer intakes) and secure admission.
Have the institution complete Form 30 and its cover letter to the Director General of Immigration Services, naming the course and its duration.
Gather supporting documents: passport bio-data copy, photographs, certified academic certificates, the sponsor's commitment letter and passport copy, and proof of funds if self-sponsored.
