How to Apply to Universities in Jamaica (2027): Step by Step

Foreign students in Jamaica obtain a student extension of stay from the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), visiting a PICA office within two weeks of arrival, for a processing fee of JM$10,000. At The University of the West Indies, Mona, international students pay USD 15,000 a year for most programmes in 2026/2027, and graduate applications for January 2027 close on 31 October 2026.

Degree study in Jamaica

  1. Apply to the university (UWI Mona undergraduate applications are free; graduate January 2027 deadline 31 October 2026).
  2. Get an entry visa if your nationality needs one.
  3. Visit a PICA office within two weeks of arrival with passport, the institution's registration letter to PICA's CEO, a one-year return ticket and the JM$10,000 fee.
  4. Register as a non-Commonwealth national (JM$2,000) if you are over 16 and staying longer than six months.
